Why sell my own home?

We always urge our customers, if they are already using an estate agent, to check the terms of the contract they have with that estate agent. Providing the agreement is not a ‘sole selling rights’ agreement, then you are fully entitled to attempt to sell your home privately, online, or any other way, without having to pay the estate agent any commission. The reason for this is that Dream Homes Direct is not an estate agent. We are an advertiser, and nothing else, which means that we can help facilitate you selling your home privately.

Whether you are already with an estate agent and you are satisfied that you are not bound by a sole selling rights agreement, or whether you are not currently with an estate agent, the next thing to think about before you proceed with selling your property privately is whether or not the services of an estate agent are valuable to you during the process.

One of the key tasks that an estate agent undertakes for their customers is the marketing aspect. Well, this is clearly where we come in, so no disadvantage in selling your own home there.

Next to that, probably the most significant value an estate agent adds is arranging viewings and accompanying potential buyers on their viewings. Dream Homes Direct can not accompany potential buyers on viewings, but the functionality of the Dream Homes Direct website means that a potential buyer can contact you directly (by your chosen method – phone or e-mail).

So again, no disadvantage there. The fact that the potential buyer contacts you directly could even work in your favour, as you are the best person to be able to talk about the merits of your property. Who knows, that extra bit of information you give that an estate agent wouldn’t have been aware of could get you an all important viewing, or even clinch the sale.

Then there's showing people around your home. Some people may not be comfortable with this, so selling your own home privately may not be for everybody, so this is something for you to consider. That said, in our experience, sometimes estate agents arrange for viewings to be done on an un-accompanied basis anyway, which may leave you feeling that "I'm selling my own home here"!
